Steve and Viv’s dream was to start a gin. The fact that they fell in love, moved to the East Lothian coast and started a family is just by the by. A house turned into a ginnery, a kitchen that was more laboratory than a cooking area, family press ganged into every aspect of production from label sticking to tasting , all went into making NB Gin what it is today. In fact if you translated man-hours to output, each bottle of NB Gin would cost hundreds of pounds. The still is John Dore designed and took years to perfect, down to a small kink that Steve and Vicky swear helps make it perfect. Batches are only 200lts and only 8 botanicals are used. Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers London, whose family have been making gin for 300, years declared it to be “a very fine gin that was extremely likeable”.
