Following on from the success of the month-long Little Galicia residency at Netil 360 last year, Estrella Galicia has collaborated with Tapas Revolution, a Spanish restaurant in the heart of Shoreditch, to once again bring the ‘Galician experience’ to London with a series of beer, tapas and live music nights. The nights, taking place on select Tuesdays throughout August and September, are designed to highlight the ‘culture, history and quality’ of Estrella Galicia beer through a variety of fun-filled activities, including live DJ sets and beer pairing sessions with traditional Galician food. Here’s what happened when we went to experience Little Galicia ourselves!
As visitors settled into their seats to sip on their welcome beers and rifled through their Estrella Galicia themed goody bags, Tapas Revolution owner, Omar Allibhoy, kicked off the night with a short overview of why the dishes they would shortly be served paired perfectly with each of the Estrella Galicia beers on offer: the original Estrella Galicia 4.7%, the dense and well-rounded 1906 Reserva Especial, and the intense 1906 Black Coupage. Omar’s speech was swiftly followed by the first of the Galician tapas dishes: ‘Pulpo Ala Gallega’, Galician octopus served with paprika potatoes, a recipe that perfectly enhances the aromas and the sweet caramel tones of 1906 Reserva Especial; and Vieras Curadas (scallops ceviche with a tomato and chilli salsa), served with Estrella Galicia 4.7%, as the sweet bitterness of the beer cuts through the chilli salsa, delivering a well-balanced flavour.
Onto the main course: “Chuleton”, Rib of beef cooked on the grill served with Pimientos de Padron & patatas bravas- a course so complex in flavour you could select either 1906 or Estrella Galicia 4.7% to pair it up with. The meal was rounded off with a sweet finale; 1906 Black Coupage paired with ‘Quesada Gallega’(baked cheesecake), the perfect flavour combination due to the delicately bitter flavours of dark chocolate and coffee in 1906 Black Coupage. The entire evening was rounded off by a live set by model/ DJ duo Ashley James and Charl De Carle and a Polaroid session giving the visitors the chance to commemorate the special event.
