Bailey Pryor is a multi-award winning documentary director with over 130 movies under his belt, but the one documentary that truly changed his life was one of his latest. Following in the footsteps of legendary rum-runner William ‘Bill’ McCoy, he produced the footage that won him five Emmy Awards and made the discovery that will see him own one of the very best rums in the world.
Bill McCoy was a very smart, but equally honest businessman. During prohibition he was the first to exploit a loophole in the law that effectively allowed him to sell spirits out at sea, provided it stayed at least three miles away from the US coast.
Soon hundreds of bootleggers followed suit, but he remained one of the very few that never adulterated his products, attracting the nickname ‘The Real McCoy’.
Bailey noticed the word ‘Barbados’ painted on a barrel in one of the historical pictures of Bill McCoy. This clue led him to a treasure hunt for the original distiller of the legendary rum. After months of investigation he eventually found the source to be the Seale family distillery.
It took some convincing Richard Seale, the latest in a long line of distillers, but eventually it was agreed that The Real McCoy Rum would sail the seas once again. And what a great decision it was!
Since then The Real McCoy has become one of the most celebrated rums, with over 65 prestigious awards won in its first three years. We are proud to be able to say that this fantastic, unsweetened, unadulterated, fragrant rum has now landed on our shores and is now widely available in the UK.
Try it in a Daiquiri or simply sip it on the rocks.
