With 48.8% of UK households purchasing cider (with an estimated spend of 1.5 billion pounds in the Off Trade), Cider experienced healthy growth in the UK Market in 2016, according to Westen’s 2016 cider report. Fruit Cider in particular, which is typically overshadowed by the apple and pear varieties, was the unexpected breakout star, experiencing a 12% growth (YOY) in the Off Trade*- definitely a trend to watch out for in 2017.
Catering to this growing demand, Maeloc, a traditional and organic Galician cider, has introduced two fruit flavoured ciders to their range- the sweet Strawberry Hard Cider and the Blackberry Hard Cider. Unlike several fruit ciders on the market, Maeloc’s ciders are brewed the traditional way with no added sugar (and no artificial flavours) using ingredients from over a thousand local farmers to achieve a high quality and authentic taste.
Maeloc’s Strawberry Cider, made with 100% organic Galician apples and the juice from sweet, sharp strawberries, is a dry cider that boasts an intense flavour of sweet strawberries and a unique citrus scent of yuzu. Rosy in colour and at 4% ABV, the cider has an aftertaste of smooth cider notes. The cider is also gluten free- capitalising on another trend that is set to boom in 2017.
Maeloc cider is a tribute to the 6th century bishop Maeloc who fled Anglo Saxon invasions and created a British community in the heart of Galicia named Britannia. True to its namesake, Maeloc is an attitude towards life and is all about discovery, curiosity, travel and ‘doing things your way’.
